THE YEAR OF THE CURVYGIRL | 1/09/2008

People ask me this question all the time, “WHAT IS A CURVYGIRL”?
CBS Channel 3’s Stepahnie Stahl interviewing Debra Mazda

The CURVYGIRLS!!!
To me, a CurvyGirl is not a size, it is an attitude. A CurvyGirl is POSITIVE, PASSIONATE AND CONFIDENT. She knows that her health is important and is working on being better, healthier and happier. A CurvyGirl embraces her curves no matter what size she is. She knows that “Fitness Comes in Many Sizes.” When she stumbles she can get up and continue the race because she knows that’s how to get ahead. CurvyGirls today are re-defining what fitness, fashion and beauty mean.
So, last night when I was given the opportunity for my first local TV interview to spread my message of GET MOVING AT ANY SIZE, I was thrilled. More than that I was thrilled to have people actually see larger, curvier women who workout and are concerned about their health. I want other women to see that you do not need to sit home alone and that there is a community and a fitness class for you to join regardless of your size. I want people to see how FIT AND FABULOUS these women look and how they are taking care of themselves and that they do feel better. I want people to hear how intelligent, articulate and positive CurvyGirls can be. I want people to see that working out is important. I want to get the message out to the millions of American women who are overweight to get moving, sweating, breathing and you will not only feel better - you will look better. When you feel better about yourself, I promise that you will make BETTER AND MORE POSITIVE CHOICES in your life.
When CBS- 3 wanted an exclusive interview with Debra Mazda and her CURVYGIRLS I knew it was time to get this message out there. Channel 3’s Medical/Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl called us to come and do the interview herself and she brought an adorable cameraman, Manny. I was so happy and proud that there was such a great turnout for the CurvyGirl Workout Class. Everyone looked really positive and it was clear to me that they were all getting more committed to taking better care of themselves. I could see that all were very proud of their accomplishments, no matter how big or small. I could feel the positive energy and happiness as it became quite clear that CurvyGirl is a community and that everyone does celebrate each other’s accomplishments. I wanted Stephanie to walk away with knowing that this is more than a fitness class. We are strong women - DIVA’S. That is, WE GET THINGS DONE.
Let me thank of you personally, as we are a Sisterhood. Thanks, for helping and supporting me as I move toward my goal of helping and supporting other women. Thanks to all of you who came forward to speak and give those wonderful testimonials. I know that some of you are not where you want to be, but please use this year to claim it as yours and make it happen. As we all move forward this year remember you will face challenges, but when you do, CONFRONT THEM as a true CurvyGirl would do, and overcome any obstacles that may come your way.
